kicker reports that the future of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is becoming more questionable as he has yet to commit to the club.
There has been an agreement in place for an extension of the 21-year-old’s contract at the BayArena since December, but Leverkusen have been waiting for confirmation from Wirtz that he wants to stay at the club. The original idea was that he would stay at Leverkusen for another year and work on things such as his leadership and other areas of his development before moving after the World Cup in 2026.
However, the 21-year-old is now considering leaving in the summer due to the level he has already reached. It has previously been said that if this does happen, Leverkusen will demand €150m.
Bayern Munich remain interested in Wirtz (of course). The decision not to renew Thomas Müller’s contract was made in an attempt to try and sign the Köln native in the summer. On top of this, Bayern are ready to take out a bank loan to try and fund the move.
Manchester City are also interested in Wirtz as the replacement for Kevin De Bruyne. The Premier League side is said to have attempted to sign the 21-year-old in the winter.
There is no deadline on when Wirtz could make a decision on his future, as Leverkusen cannot make one, as it could risk the good relationship with the Wirtz clan. die Werkself no longer have the leverage to force a decision.
