Florian Wirtz is nearing a new contract at Bayer Leverkusen, which includes an exit clause valid from next summer. According to Christian Falk, the 21-year-old will sign a new deal until 2028, and not 2027 as originally suggested, with a reported €125m release clause.
Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro and sporting director Simon Rolfes are pushing to get a deal over the line, which will see Wirtz earn a reported salary more than €10m. With interest from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City, Bayer have long been pushing to sign Wirtz to a new deal and with the club still in the Champions League and challenging Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, a stay at Leverkusen for Wirtz makes sense.
In November, it was reported that Bayer Leverkusen bosses were confident that Wirtz would sign a new contract, and Falk’s report suggests that now it is just a formality.
