Alessandro Florenzi has hit back at those who are criticising AC Milan, by claiming that they have been silent for the past four years.
Florenzi was actually on the bench for the last two games after having missed the entire season due to knee surgery. Things had started well for the Italian too given he scored in the first summer friendly against Rapid Vienna, and the setback in the United States was a difficult one.
Having turned 34 years old earlier in the month he is one of the elder statesmen in the club, offering experience and leadership. With Florenzi at their disposal, Milan have an important wildcard, who can help Kyle Walker take a breather or possibly Theo Hernandez given his versatility.
There is even talk of a potential one-year renewal for the ex-Roma man. He spoke during an interview with Sky and discussed a number of topics from the targets that remain this season to the game against Napoli after the break. MilanNews relayed his comments.
What is this current team like?
“I always trust Milan, I know what Milan players are like and I consider them very strong. We have to cover our ears, it’s normal that everyone talks about us since we’re not doing well.
“They were silent for four years, they had a lot of backlog and now everyone is talking badly about us, since we’re ninth: it’s nothing new for me, maybe for some people.”

What are the objectives between now and the end of the season?
“We have to give everything and that’s it, leave the pitch without regrets. The derby is far away, let’s think about Napoli. To win you need some factors and one of these is the group, then there is quality, and in the year of the Scudetto in my opinion there was less of it.
“We are many and strong. If you put one or the other, nothing changes. Perhaps the thing that was missing was experience.”
You will face Napoli after the break…
“It’s a match that can give you a lot and take a lot away. They are doing great things and they are playing for the Scudetto: it seems abnormal to say it, but I would like to see consistency in performances from Milan.
“I would like to see a team, like in the last two games. Then the result could be a defeat, a draw or a victory.”
What do you think of the national team?
“We have a formidable coach, a lot of really strong players. I’m crazy about Barella, for me he’s an incredible player but as a person he’s even better.”
