Tottenham have been one of the biggest spenders in the Premier League this summer, as the North Londoners undergo stage two of Ange Postecoglou’s rebuild.

Dominic Solanke has arrived in a club-record deal from Bournemouth to boost the attacking options available to ‘Big Ange’, alongside potential future stars Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert and Lucas Bergvall.

Despite the wealth of new arrivals, hopes are still high for more additions before the August 30 deadline for Premier League clubs. Postecoglou remains adamant that he needs more players to build a squad capable of challenging on all fronts, with Spurs set to compete in the Europa League in 2024/25.

Ahead of Deadline Day, we’ve looked at five Premier League players who could be transfer targets for Spurs before the window closes.

Five Tottenham transfers to watch before deadline day

Eberechi Eze – Crystal Palace

Eberechi Eze has been linked with almost all of the Premier League’s biggest clubs. The Crystal Palace midfielder has become the hub of the Eagles side and established himself as part of the England set-up.

Eze’s fun-filled brand of football would certainly be worth the admission fee for those with Tottenham tickets. A reported release clause of around £60m means Palace could be powerless to precent another big name exit, following the sale of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.

Chelsea and Tottenham are both understood to have been monitoring the winger, while Premier League champions Manchester City are long-term admirers.

Ivan Toney – Brentford

Ivan Toney looks set to leave Brentford before the transfer deadline, having been left out of the club’s squad for their season-opener with Crystal Palace. Toney has been in talks over a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, though interest from the Premier League’s top teams would be difficult to ignore despite the lucrative contract on offer.

Spurs have been linked with Toney all summer, as the North Londoners seek additional cutting edge. The arrival of Solanke from Bournemouth means a transfer for Toney appears unlikely, unless there is outgoing movement in Postecoglou’s squad.

Richarlison – also a reported transfer target for Saudi Pro League teams – could move on to free funds and room for another striker signing. Brentford value Toney at around £50m.

Adam Wharton – Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace fans will not want to hear more on potential outgoings but Adam Wharton’s performances since signing for the club are difficult to ignore.

Each of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ are reported to be courting the 20-year-old, whose rapid rise saw him leave a Championship relegation battle with Blackburn in January, before breaking into the England squad for Euro 2024.

Manchester City have been heavily linked with Wharton, who is viewed as a potential understudy and successor to Rodri at the Etihad. The Citizens, however, are working on a short-term solution with Ilkay Gundogan linked with a return to the Etihad from Barcelona.

Palace spent £18.5m to sign Wharton in January and can expect a huge profit on any sale. The cost involved could rule Spurs out in the current transfer window.

Anthony Gordon – Newcastle United

Links with Liverpool persist for Anthony Gordon, but could Spurs emerge as an alternative suitor?

Gordon’s game appears well-suited to Ange Postecoglou’s brand of football, where the Australian wants his team to attack with pace and work tirelessly to regain possession in advanced areas. The 22-year-old can perform off either flank and through the middle, marking him out as a potential long-term replacement for Son Heung-min.

Gordon, however, would not come cheap with talk of a fee in the region of £100m. That looks unfeasible for Spurs as things stand, unless there is a player-plus-cash proposal that could tempt the Magpies.

Kyle Walker-Peters – Southampton

Kyle Walker-Peters has been linked with a return to Tottenham this summer with the defender having entered the final 12 months of his deal at Southampton.

A graduate of the Spurs academy, Walker-Peters left for Southampton in 2020 and has won two caps for England after an impressive period at St Mary’s. The departure of Emerson Royal to AC Milan leaves Spurs short of depth at right-back and Walker-Peters’ comfortability on either flank could make him a valued member of Postecoglou’s squad.

With his contract running down and Southampton having signed a replacement in Yukinari Sugawara, a deal looks simple to make.
