Kieran Maguire believes that Will Ferrell will be used to help increase Leeds United’s profile across the world, as he compared it to Tom Brady's role at Birmingham City.

It has been a chaotic few years for Leeds for many reasons, with the side having suffered relegation from the Premier League last season, and they just missed out on automatic promotion in the dramatic end to this campaign.

As well as that, the past 12 months brought a change in ownership, as 49ers Enterprise completed a full takeover of the club from Andrea Radrizzani.

Paarag Marathe is the chairman and the man who oversees the day-to-day running of the club, but there are some high-profile figures who are shareholders, including golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.

And, it was confirmed earlier this month that Hollywood actor Ferrell is joining as an investor, although it’s not clear just how much money he is putting in.

Speaking to Football Insider, Maguire has revealed he that Ferrell is not likely making a significant investment into the Championship side but rather will be seen as someone who can help increase the exposure and brand of Leeds, in a situation comparable to NFL legend Brady’s involvement at Birmingham City.

He said: “Will Ferrell buying into Leeds United, I suspect, is similar to the relationship between Birmingham City and Tom Brady. I don’t think there will be much of a financial investment from the Hollywood star but it will help to raise the profile of the club.

“On the back of the Welcome to Wrexham Series, I would imagine Farrell’s unique personality and fame can be utilised by the club and Farrell himself to benefit both parties.”

This is not something that is likely to impact the Leeds fans much, but you can understand Maguire’s point here, and it does outline the bigger strategy at Elland Road right now.

In this PSR era, the importance of increasing revenues is clear, as clubs need to do all they can to maximise every possible angle. With Leeds, they are a big club in the country, and they do have plenty of support across the world.

However, in the past two decades, they have spent the vast majority of their time outside the Premier League, which naturally impacts how you are viewed on a global scale.

So, having people like Ferrell involved does increase the profile of the club, and it’s becoming a common theme in football today, with Brady the most obvious example.
