Fantasy Premier League is back for GW2, so we have picked out the best captains in FPL and looked at their potential for returns this weekend.
It’s yet another Friday deadline, so make sure you have your transfers and captaincy sorted today!
FPL Deadline: Friday, 22 August, 18:30 BST.

As ever, there’s no need to get too fancy when Mo Salah is an option. Newcastle away is not the best fixture among the captaincy candidates, but the Liverpool winger is capable of striking against any opponent, even when he doesn’t play well.
That’s what happened last week when Salah played poorly by his standards against Bournemouth, but found the net anyway with a brilliant late goal at Anfield. That performance is a slight worry, as it suggests he’s not at top form right now. But ignore him at your peril.
Another quick start to a new season for Erling Haaland as he netted two goals against a poor Wolves side on the opening weekend. No player had more than his three big chances, while only Anthony Gordon (seven) had more attempts on goal than him (six).
Tottenham Hotspur are a bogey side for Man City and won this fixture 4-0 last season. They will, however, give up chances to the big Norwegian if their encounter with PSG in the UEFA Super Cup is anything to go by.
If Chelsea were not playing West Ham United, I’m not sure I would even be considering Cole Palmer as one of the best captains in GW2. Graham Potter’s side look a rabble based on their 3-0 defeat Sunderland last Saturday. The scoreline may have flattered the Black Cats somewhat, but you can’t say the Hammers deserved anything from the game.
The Blues should thump them at the London Stadium this evening, but they are so slow and lethargic in attack. It’s frustrating to watch as a Palmer owner, even though I expect at least one return from him this week.
This one is also all about the fixture. Arsenal are very hard to beat at home, they should be one of the two best teams in the league, and are facing a promoted team in Leeds who will surrender opportunities in front of goal.
And yet, the Gunners don’t inspire a lot of confidence after a rusty performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Perhaps Mikel Arteta will revert to basics as he tries to integrate Viktor Gyokeres into his setup.
To be brutally honest, Bukayo Saka is rarely at the top of my list for best captains in a given gameweek, unless the stars all align. He’s a fabulous footballers and integral to Arsenal’s offence, but you can’t depend on him for regular hauls. Gyokeres is another possible option, although I don’t think there’s much need to take a gamble if you have Salah or Haaland.
