Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has just put up his latest Youtube video, and as always it’s full of fascinating Chelsea insight.
The top news of the last 24 hours has been the Blues’ big push to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, and Romano has come in hard with a big update on all of that which is very positive for Blues fans.
“Chelsea are advancing very well. Negotiations underway, negotiations going well. An agreement on personal terms is getting closer,” Romano said.
“At the moment it’s still not done, but any moment could see an agreement… on Monday Chelsea decided to advance on the player’s side to agree personal terms. Xavi Simons is keen on the Chelsea project and keen on a move to Chelsea and they’re discussing the numbers of an eventual contract.”
This is just the deal with Simons of course – we would then need a deal with Leipzig for his fee.
You can see Romano’s thoughts in the clip embedded here:
Romano also noted that there was a specific reason for why the Blues were moving so quickly to try and snap up Simons now:
“Chelsea are pushing to reach an agreement with the player because Arsenal are still interested but they’re busy with different priorities. Bayern are watching the situation closely but their focus is Luis Diaz from Liverpool. That remains the priority for Bayern. So Chelsea are working to advance and be quick.”
So this feels like an excellent opportunity to snap up a talented player while other potential competitors are distracted. It’s no surprise we want to advance quickly, and if negotiations go well with Leipzig we could get this wrapped up in the course of a few days, while Arsenal and Bayern continue to battle for other targets.
