Former Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis looks set to link up with a former Hoops teammate at PAOK. The Greek striker has enjoyed a nomadic career since leaving Celtic with spells in The MLS and Mexican football but looks set for a return to Greece.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Giakoumakis will move to PAOK on a loan deal with the Greek outfit retaining an option to buy.
The news means that the powerful striker will link up with Greg Taylor, his teammate for eighteen months, with the ambitious Greek outfit. The pair enjoyed success under Ange Postecoglou before Giakoumakis swapped Celtic for Atlanta United.
There are some in the Celtic support that have suggested a possible move by the Scottish Champions for GG. However, while he would be open to a return, the player made it clear before that the wages on offer were not good enough. Celtic were always going to be unlikely to sanction a move for the attacker in any event, even if he would fit the criteria for a Brendan striker.
Another ex-Celt Odsonne Edouard was an unused sub as Crystal Palace beat Liverpool in the Community Shield at Wembley. There were links earlier in the summer about a sensational return to Paradise but Brendan denied these at the time. As the window goes on, Celtic would certainly take a player of Edouard’s quality back. Although, it’s fairly obvious that a striker, two wingers and a left back are required to ensure Celtic are fully stocked for the season ahead.
