Fabio Silva had been on the pitch at the Estádio do Dragão for only two minutes when he made club history – at the age of only 17: the Portuguese forward scored the goal to make it 3-0 in FC Porto's match against Famalicao in October 2019, making him the youngest league goalscorer in the club's history. And that wasn't the first historic milestone in Silva's still fledgling career: a week earlier, the striker had already scored in the cup victory over Coimbroes to make it 5-0, entering Porto's history books as their youngest goalscorer ever. Six years after this historic start to his professional career in 2019, Silva has already scored goals in six national leagues and has now made his debut for Portugal's senior national team too.
Born on 19 July 2002 in Gondomar, Portugal, Silva's football journey began at an early age in the FC Porto youth academy. He then briefly moved to Benfica before returning to Porto in 2017. With the club's U19 team, Silva not only won the national championship in 2019 as a 16-year-old but also contributed five goals en route to winning the UEFA Youth League.
By this point, he was already training with coach Sergio Conceicao's first-team squad. In the 2019/20 campaign, he made his debut in the Portuguese top flight on the first day of the season, before becoming the youngest goalscorer in the club's history in October 2019. He was celebrating the double with Porto by the end of the season, having won both the league and the cup, and also gained international experience in three UEFA Europa League games.
Despite being only 18 years old, Silva completed a switch to the Premier League in the summer of 2020 and joined Wolverhampton Wanderers. To get more experience, he was loaned out to RSC Anderlecht (2022-2023), PSV Eindhoven (2023), Rangers (2024) and UD Las Palmas (2024-2025), where he continued to develop his game and amassed more experience. Silva won the Dutch Cup with PSV Eindhoven in 2023.
Silva also scores goals for his homeland: he has played for a total of five Portuguese youth teams and scored 34 goals in 65 appearances. In November 2024, he made his debut for the senior national team in a 1-1 draw with Croatia in the group stage of the UEFA Nations League.
