Ansu Fati is off to AS Monaco and, if things go well, he may never return to Barcelona. The Ligue 1 giants have been the preferred choice for both the player and his agent due to their style of play and the financial strength of the project.
Ansu gave his approval for the move a few weeks ago, fully convinced. He knew he was no longer needed at Barcelona, and he had little desire to stay if he was not going to play.
Now, according to SPORT, Ansu leaves Barcelona frustrated, mainly because his inner circle believes he was treated unfairly.
Last summer, Hansi Flick told him he would be part of the team and get minutes. Yet in January, the club opened the door for his exit.
The player did not appreciate Flick’s criticism regarding his training attitude, especially since his camp insisted he was physically ready to play.
The sporting management’s handling of the situation also drew criticism. Ansu’s entourage felt that the club was always prioritising a permanent exit and not offering a fair chance.
The way things were handled has left a mark, and Ansu now wants to prove he can return to top form and prove people at the club wrong.

Ansu never resisted the idea of leaving. He accepted a loan to Brighton when Xavi Hernandez informed him he was not part of the plans, and now he is among the first to resolve his future this summer, along with Clement Lenglet.
The La Masia forward had long hoped for a real opportunity, but since that did not come, he chose not to drag the situation out – for his own sake and the club’s.
He remains on good personal terms with many in the first team, who supported him through a difficult period and hope he can eventually return.
The report further states that Ansu has already agreed to a future deal with Monaco should they trigger the purchase option. Both sides see it as a potential boost for his career.
Monaco is viewed as a stepping stone, and if he returns to his best, there will be time to revisit the past. He is still young and has time on his side.
At one point, Ansu’s camp even considered proposing a contract termination, believing it was the best path if he was truly unwanted.
Ultimately, a deal was reached that benefits all parties: Barcelona will save around €8 million in wages. Ansu remains under contract until 30 June 2028, meaning that if he returns next summer, a definitive decision will need to be made.
