Paul Joyce revealed that Liverpool are looking to sign a young centre-back due to the uncertainty surrounding both Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah’s future.
Quansah is attracting strong interest from Bayer Leverkusen, which could open the door for a new arrival.
One target that Liverpool had been linked with was Leny Yoro, before his move to Manchester United.
Joyce stated that the reasoning behind his decision was that “he wanted to play every week and we couldn’t guarantee that.”
Dean Huijsen was another target until Real Madrid completed his signing, and with those two options off the table, and Konate entering the final year of his deal, Joyce stated that “alarm bells will be ringing” for the Reds.
Arne Slot’s back line will be changing as left-back Andy Robertson is heavily linked with Atletico Madrid.
‘HE’S ALWAYS READY TO LEARN’ – FORMER TEAMMATE SPEAKS ABOUT LIVERPOOL TARGET MILOS KERKEZ
Joyce describes his situation as delicate as Robertson “loves the club and feels appreciated, but he also knows he is no longer going to be playing all of the games due to the arrival of Milos Kerkez.”
Liverpool have notified him of the arrival of a new left-back, but contrary to speculation, “the talk of him leaving on a free transfer is not true.”
We can expect a decision to be made “in the coming days” on Robertson’s future.
Liverpool are clearly preparing for a defensive transition with decisions looming for Konate, Quansah and Robertson. However, with the imminent arrival of Kerkez imminent, and the links with Marc Guehi means there is no need to be overly concerned as the Reds are working smartly for the future.
