Despite being relegated into the National League with the Cumbrians, Terell Thomas is attracting interest in League One

Huddersfield Town are plotting a move for Carlisle United defender Terell Thomas this summer, sources have exclusively informed Football League World.

The Terriers have endured somewhat of a disappointing 2024-25 campaign in League One, with the manager that was brought in to guide them back to the Championship at the first time of asking in Michael Duff sacked back in March.

Interim boss Jonathan Worthington could not turn Town's form around, meaning it will be a second year in the third tier of English football for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Owner Kevin Nagle has some big decisions to make in the coming weeks, such as a new manager as well as a sporting director, but it appears transfer targets are already being lined up, despite the recent exit of Mark Cartwright.

FLW has been told that one player that is on the radar of Huddersfield is that of Terell Thomas, who has amassed plenty of experience within the EFL over the years.

A product of the Charlton Athletic academy, having spent time with Arsenal before that, Thomas only made his EFL debut in 2017 whilst at Wigan Athletic at the age of 21, having spent plenty of time on loan in non-league with Woking prior to that.

Thomas has taken in stints with AFC Wimbledon, Crewe, Reading and Charlton Athletic again since, before landing at Carlisle last summer following their relegation from League One.

The 29-year-old, who has amassed 16 caps for St. Lucia's national team, has appeared 33 times in all competitions for the Cumbrian outfit this season, but it has been one of disappointment as they have suffered back-to-back relegations, and will play their football in the National League in 2025-26.

Thomas is on a contract at Brunton Park until 2026, and whilst he suggested in an interview that he's ready to help United back into the EFL, he may exit the club following their drop into the fifth tier if clubs are interested and Huddersfield look ready to pounce.

Thomas is a towering presence at the back, standing at 6ft 3in, and that is perhaps something Huddersfield have been missing this season since the January departure of Michal Helik to Oxford United.

As it stands though, many of Town's current defensive options are set to be out of contract at the end of June unless they are offered fresh terms - they include Tom Lees, Matty Pearson and Josh Ruffels.

Radinio Balker will also miss most of 2025 through injury, and with Nigel Lonwijk heading back to Wolves, it leaves centre-back options very thin on the ground, with just Brodie Spencer at the club next season currently.
