Rohl appears to be on the verge of leaving Hillsborough this summer.
It would be a surprise to see Danny Rohl still in position at Sheffield Wednesday come the start of next season, according to Don Goodman.
From the moment that the Wednesday players were paid their March wages late and the club was threatened with a three-window transfer ban, it has seemed like the manager's mind has been on everything but the Owls, at least with regard to next season.
He initially answered questions on his future in a way that left the door open for him to leave this summer, but it has now got to the point where he appears to have mentally checked out of Hillsborough.
Rohl has claimed on multiple occasions now that him and the owner, Dejphon Chansiri, have an agreement, an understanding, on the 36-year-old's future, which is likely to not involve the Owls. It was reported on Thursday by talkSPORT that the German has made the decision to leave Wednesday. However, the club have denied any such agreement between the manager and the owner.
His recent quotes on a podcast about how he "had a fantastic time at Sheffield Wednesday," and hints that he feels he may have taken the club as far as he can only point Rohl in one direction, and Goodman can't see it going any other way either.
Rohl has been linked with the likes of Leicester City, RB Leipzig and Southampton since the March payments fiasco.
The Sky Sports pundit exclusively told Football League World: "I think with regard to Dany Rohl I'd be absolutely shocked if he is still the manager of Sheffield Wednesday at the start of next season. Public spats, fallouts with Dejphon Chansiri, lack of backing - he'll feel really let down. Obviously, players' wages weren't paid on time - the club is in a bit of a mess really.
"He's probably going to have alternative options to Wednesday that will undoubtedly feel more attractive, so I'd be very surprised if he is still there at the start of next season."
If it ends as it seems like it's going to, with Rohl unhappy and wanting out as opposed to a bigger club offering him an unmissable opportunity, it will be a bit of a sad ending to what had been a beautiful story.
The 36-year-old, in his first job as a manager, pulled off one of the most unbelievable relegation comebacks in Championship history, taking a down-and-out side out of the bottom three in the dying weeks of the season before lifting them up to mid-table in this one.
There's no doubt that he is one of the most promising prospects in his field, and will have a number of clubs chasing him this summer. But for the Owls it's going to be about picking themselves back up again and finding the next Danny Rohl.
