Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has exclusively told FLW his thoughts on the Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba transfer situation

Sheffield Wednesday pair Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba are both attracting concrete interest from other clubs as the Owls look to sell players to help with their financial crisis.

According to The Star, Gassama is on the verge of completing a move to Rangers, with the 21-year-old agreeing personal terms on a four-year contract with the Scottish giants.

The Mauritanian-born winger, who has represented France at youth level, joined Wednesday from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 and has made 84 appearances for the South Yorkshire side - scoring 12 goals and providing four assists.

Meanwhile, Anthony Musaba is reportedly attracting interest from Turkish Super Lig side Rizespor, among others. The 24-year-old Dutchman has contributed to 23 goals (scoring 12, assisting 11) since arriving from AS Monaco in the same window as Gassama.

Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba leaving Sheffield Wednesday is "inevitable"

Sky Sports pundit, Don Goodman, has exclusively told FLW his thoughts on the Gassama and Musaba transfer situation. Speaking about the pair's development at Hillsborough, Goodman was particularly complimentary about how both players have fared during their time at the club.

"Three goals in his first season at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship and I think it’s seven or eight in his second - Djeidi Gassama has progressed there’s no doubt," Goodman explained.

The former striker was equally positive about Anthony Musaba's attributes, "Musaba is a player that I really like, really quick, really dynamic, really direct - again young enough for a club to maybe knock the rough edges off and polish a really good player up.

"But yeah, it was inevitable that given the situation that Sheffield Wednesday are in that they are going to lose some of their best players, particularly the ones they can gain a fee for."

Don Goodman believes Sheffield Wednesday is a "mess"

Goodman didn't mince words about the root cause of Wednesday's problems, pointing directly to the club's mismanagement under Chansiri.

"The club’s a mess, finances are a mess and I suppose they need to rake in every penny they can. Unfortunately, it’s having a really negative impact," he concluded.

Currently operating under a three-window transfer embargo after exceeding 30 days of late payments between, the Owls have failed to pay player wages on time for multiple months - resulting in six senior players handing in their notice.

Staff at the club have also been affected, with employees receiving emergency funding of £700 during the May payment crisis. The situation has been described as "shocking" and "not tolerable" by Professional Footballers' Association CEO, Maheta Molango.

Sheffield Wednesday's squad planning for 25/26 in disarray

Adding to the club's instability, manager Danny Rohl is also expected to leave Sheffield Wednesday, and has been in talks about a severance package. The German coach saved them from relegation in 23/24 and guided them to a 12th-place finish last season.

With all this in mind, the looming departures of Gassama and Musaba would obviously impact Wednesday's squad planning for the upcoming season.

Both players have been key contributors to the team's performances under Rohl, and the club's ability to replace these is severely limited by their transfer restrictions - Wednesday can only sign free agents and must maintain a squad of no more than 23 players while under embargo.

Goodman's praise for the duo's abilities only serves to highlight what Wednesday stands to lose as a result of Chansiri's wrongdoing - and another example of financial mismanagement in English football.
