Ryan Hardie is in talks over signing a new contract with Plymouth Argyle, FLW understands.
Plymouth Argyle striker Ryan Hardie is in talks over signing a new contract to remain at Home Park, Football League World has exclusively been informed.
The 28-year-old centre-forward is heading into the final 12 months of his Argyle contract, having penned a three-year extension in May 2023.
Hardie has been with the Pilgrims since January 2020, having initially signed on loan from Blackpool, before eventually making his Plymouth switch a permanent one in the 2021 winter transfer window.
Football League World has exclusively been informed that Plymouth Argyle are in discussions with Ryan Hardie over a new contract for the ex-Scotland youth international.
As a result, this could land a serious dent to Wrexham's transfer plans, as they've been strongly linked with a move for the Argyle hitman in 2025.
FLW exclusively revealed on 31 December 2024 that the Red Dragons were prepared to meet his £2m buyout clause in his current Pilgrims contract during the most recent winter transfer window.
However, whilst no such move materialised during that window, Wrexham's interest doesn't appear to have waned heading into this summer.
Journalist Darren Witcoop revealed via his X account on 3 May that the club once again had Hardie in their sights after Argyle's relegation to League One was confirmed.
However, the newly promoted Championship side may now have to take their centre-forward search elsewhere...
It's fair to say that Plymouth fans need something to cheer about considering the last few weeks they've endured.
Suffering relegation to League One was painful enough, but seeing their manager Miron Muslic abandon ship to take the Schalke job after seemingly being prepared to stay at the wheel; well that just added salt to the wounds.
As a result, the mood around Home Park has been one of deflation and frustration in recent days, but should Hardie sign a new deal with the club, that would surely provide an injection of enthusiasm and hope back into the Argyle faithful.
Not only has the Scotsman proven himself to be a solid source of goals at Championship level for Plymouth over the last two seasons, in the two campaigns prior, he showed himself to be a top-quality marksman at League One level too.
Hardie's career record at third tier level reads as 34 goals and 15 assists in 131 appearances (per Transfermarkt), and having him on board for next term would surely hand Argyle a major boost to their promotion credentials.
Therefore, should he ink his signature on a contract extension with Plymouth, Hardie will only serve to write the latest chapter in his Home Park legend this summer.
