Striker Marko Arnautovic has been named as Inter Milan’s outstanding player in their 2-2 Serie A draw with Hellas Verona.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper also praise backup goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro for his performance.

Arnautovic got the chance to start for Inter in the Nerazzurri’s final match of the season.

The Austrian has hardly been a regular in the starting eleven this season.

But Inter coach Simone Inzaghi gave Arnautovic the chance to lead the line against the Gialloblu.

And the former West Ham United and Stoke City showed that he is still capable of being a real driving force in attack.

The highlight was of course Arnautovic’s two goals.

The 35-year-old found the back of the net twice, either side of goals from Verona forwards Tijani Noslin and Tomas Suslov in the first half.

Arnautovic’s strength, the timing of his runs, and his finishing were all expert, on a night where some of his teammates perhaps lacked a bit of cutting edge.

It was not just the goals from Arnautovic, however.

The Austrian – who joined Inter from Bologna last summer – also provided a real focal point in attack.

That is just what the Nerazzurri signed Arnautovic for.

Particularly matched with Juan Cabal – a fullback playing out of position at centre-back in the Verona backline – Arnautovic really got the better of the physical battle.

And when the Austrian was able to use his strength to hold up to the ball, he also had the technique and awareness to bring teammates into play.

The Gazzetta deem Arnautovic’s display in the wild 2-2 draw worthy of a 7/10 score.

Meanwhile, backup goalkeeper Di Gennaro gets a 6.5/10 grade for a couple of good stops off the bench.
