Interesting to hear that Newcastle United have made a new appointment, that is Head of Strategic Technical Football Partnerships.

The person given the job is the one who has revealed the news.

Jack Ross taking on the role.

He announced it via an update on his official LinkedIn page.

Jack Ross stating “I am happy to share that I am starting a new position as Head of Strategic Technical Football Partnerships at Newcastle United Football Club.”

Ross first arrived in the north east as Sunderland manager and was treated pretty shabbily.

He got them to the League One play-off finals in his first season (2018/19) but the Mackems lost out to Charlton at Wembley.

Then despite standing sixth in the table, Sunderland sacked him on 8 October 2019, the following season.

Jack Ross going on to manage once again in Scotland, with both Hibs and Dundee.

At the end of March 2023, Ross arrived back in the north east as interim head of coach development at Newcastle United, then got that job permanently in June 2023.

As fans, you never know which players are going to go on and have careers in management, or indeed, more on the behind the scenes roles, including on the business side of things.

Jack Ross is still only 48 years of age, so plenty time ahead of him to develop into whatever role.

With this appointment as Head of Strategic Technical Football Partnerships at Newcastle United maybe only the start.

Clearly he has been putting in a lot of work since ending his days as a player, his LinkedIn profile headed with:

‘Sports Professional UEFA Pro Licence, MA (Hons) Economics, MSc’

Jack Ross has actually made clear previously just how ambitious he is, when speaking to ‘Not the Old Firm’:

“Sporting director is an area I want to pursue.

“Because ironically, I don’t think there’s that many people with my background in the role.

“That is surprising and if you do a deeper dive, there’s actually not that many who have been managers or players.
