Inter had to settle for a point in the first Derby d’Italia match of the season.

But it was anything but a cagey affair. On the contrary, Inter and Juventus played out one of the highest-scoring matches that the fixture has ever seen.

First, Inter took the lead early on. This was courtesy of a penalty by Zielinski in his first ever Serie A start for the Nerazzurri.

Then, Juventus responded with two goals courtesy of Dusan Vlahovic and Tim Weah.

But Inter didn’t take too long to regain their advantage. Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored their equalizer, and then Zielinski slotted away another penalty.

Inter then added a fourth in the second half through Denzel Dumfries.

Moreover, the Nerazzurri even created some decent chances after that.

But then the momentum swung in favour of Juventus. Substitute Kenan Yildiz scored twice to take the scoreline to a remarkable 4-4.

The pace of the match didn’t slow down all that much after that.

But there was a sense that both sides recognized that the match had gotten out of their control.

“It was certainly a very good match,” said Inter midfielder Zielinski after the final whistle.”

“But we had to be more aggressive, and no allow them to start their counterattacks because we know they have pace and quality in those situations.”

“And they scored twice to equalize in a match that seemed to have been won.”

“We were missing the fifth goal,” Zielinski said.

The 30-year-old Polish international said that “We created opportunities to kill off the match.”

“But unfortunately the ball didn’t go in.”

The former Napoli midfielder also hinted that “The real Zielinski is yet to be seen.”

And of his being the penalty-taker in the first half ahead of Inter captain Lautaro Martinez, Zielinski said that “We had practised penalties this morning.”

“I scored in the shootout this morning,” the Pole said.

“And so Lauti came over to me and asked if I wanted to take the penalty off of him. And I thank him, because scoring my first goal first goal in such a prestigious shirt was brilliant.”
