Inter Milan midfielder Piotr Zielinski is pushing to make a speedy return to the pitch in time for the team’s Champions League clash with Young Boys.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. They report that there’s no doubt the Pole will be out to face Roma, but that he could be back fairly swiftly.

Midfielder Zielinski has suffered a thigh strain.

Inter confirmed that the 30-year-old underwent medical tests today. These confirmed that he has suffered a strain in his right thigh.

Therefore, it is hardly as though Zielinski will be back fit and available in time for Inter’s first match back from the international break, away to Roma in Serie A this Sunday.

But the question then is how long the wait will be.

Inter face Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday. Then, later this month, the Nerazzurri host Juventus in Serie A.

The Derby d’Italia against the Bianconeri could prove to be one of the most significant matches of Inter’s season, and potentially decisive in the title race.

Naturally, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi won’t want to be without Zielinski for long.

With three matches in the space of a week, the Inter coach will want to have as much room to rotate his squad as possible.

Any rest that Inzaghi can give to the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Davide Frattesi, and a returning Nicolo Barella would be much welcome in order to keep these key players fresh.

And Sky are reporting that Zielinski could soon be back in the rotation.

Despite having suffered a muscle injury, the broadcaster anticipate that it may not be a long time on the sidelines for Zielinski.

Sky report that the former Napoli and Empoli man is optimistically targeting a return against Young Boys next week.
