Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is pushing to start ahead of Marcelo Brozovic in the Champions League final against Man City on Saturday.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the two midfielders are going head-to-head for a starting place in the final in Istanbul.

There is no real doubt that Mkhitaryan will be in Inter’s squad for Saturday’s final in Istanbul.

The 34-year-old has fully recovered from his thigh injury to make a return to high-intensity individual training. This has been the case for a few days.

However, the Armenian former Roma, Arsenal, and Manchester United man has only just made his return to full training. He has been working with the rest of the squad for the past couple of days.

This could be enough time for Mkhitaryan to be fit for the final, but it’s far from certain.

Mkhitaryan & Brozovic Go Head-To-Head For Place In Inter Starting XI Vs Man City

According to the Gazzetta, it’s between Mkhitaryan and Brozovic to start in the final on Saturday.

On the one hand, Mkhitaryan has started in every Champions League knockout match so far for Inter.

The Armenian has provided a tactical balance in midfield. There is little doubt that Nerazzurri coach prefers a midfield trio of Mkhitaryan, Nicolo Barella, and Hakan Calhanoglu in the biggest matches now.

On the other hand, Brozovic has also reasserted himself in recent matches.

Particularly with Mkhitaryan out injured, the Croat has had the chance to make a big contribution in midfield.

If there is any doubt about Mkhitaryan’s fitness, then Brozovic will start. The 30-year-old former Dinamo Zagreb man would certainly be ready to do so.

However, the Gazzetta reports, if Mkhitaryan looks to be fully fit to start, then he will play from the first minute.
