Former Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri reveals when he’ll retire from coaching and what he plans to do afterwards.

The 65-year-old made a name for himself in the lower divisions before getting his first crack at the top flight after leading Empoli towards Serie A. Another positive campaign with the Tuscans gained him more fame as well as a big move to Napoli. The Italian coach became a cult hero during his three years at San Paolo and was on the cusp of clinching the Scudetto title.

Sarri then had brief spells at Chelsea and Juventus before signing for Lazio in 2021. The experienced coach enjoyed great success at Formello last season, but the results took a turn to the worse this term, so he ended up resigning from his post in March.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24), the manager revealed that he doesn’t plan to linger in the game for too long, as he looks to retire after two or three years.

In two or three years, I will stop and I will focus on helping my region and the people who deserve it for what they have given me over the years. I am attached to Figline, I grew up in the square. Then I played in the Figline youth team and five years with the first team. I have to give back to those who helped me develop, the coaches and all those who were part of my career. Recently, I stopped at a local U12 training session and saw real football. I returned home with a sense of contentment .

Sarri is also grateful for late AC Milan President Silvio Berlusconi who refused the chance to sign him in 2015, as it ultimately allowed him to join Napoli.

Had Berlusconi not vetoed my move to Milan, I would have never had the opportunity to coach that great Napoli side.
