Former Inter Milan Sporting Director Marco Branca feels the Nerazzurri are still ahead of Napoli, and Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski are “just what they need.”

The former executive spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

Next season, Inter will go into the Serie A campaigns as the undoubted favourites to win the title again.

But at the same time, that will also mean that the Nerazzurri have a target painted on their back.

Inter’s rivals are doing a lot of work in the summer transfer window to strengthen.

Juventus and AC Milan have certainly taken major steps. Both have appointed new coaches and made high profile signings – and more will surely follow.

But the most dramatic overhaul has been that of Napoli.

The Partenopei certainly needed a change. They shockingly slipped to tenth in the Serie A table last season after having won the title the previous campaign.

But a change is exactly what’s come in Naples.

Former Inter, Juventus, and Chelsea coach Antonio Conte. As have several big name signings who are suited to the 54-year-old’s style of play and tactical demands.

But Inter have also reacted to what’s gone on around them.

The Nerazzurri haven’t just kept their existing squad together – arguably the most important thing.

They’ve also signed Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski on free transfers to strengthen the depth of their squad.

Branca called these “Two top signings that they’ve already made months ago.”

“To combine the technical and physical qualities with the suitability for the roles in the squad,” the former executive continued. “That’s just what they need.”

And as far as the comparison between Inter and Napoli, Branca said “I’d still put Inter ahead of everyone.”

“Because of how they’re already proven. And, given the way they won the Scudetto, they won’t let their guard down.”

“They know what it’s like to get distracted, they’ve been there.”
