Yann Sommer is not giving up hope in the Serie A title race after Juventus inflicted a 1-0 defeat on Inter Milan this evening.
The former Bayern Munich keeper spoke to Italian broadcaster RAI Sport after the match, via FCInterNews. He stressed that there are “still thirteen matches left to go.”
Inter Milan fell to their third defeat of the season in Serie A this evening.
And it was a particularly bitter loss for the Nerazzurri.
The Derby d’Italia is always a heated fixture. The rivalry between Inter and Juventus is an historic one with no love lost between both teams, no matter what’s at stake.
But beyond that there is the fact that Inter had the chance to go top of the table this evening.
A win would have taken the Nerazzurri a point clear of Napoli after the league leaders’ slip-up against Lazio yesterday.
And even a draw would have at least allowed Inter to stay within a point of the Partenopei.
However, Inter lost, with Francisco Conceicao’s second goal enough to give the hosts all three points.
After today’s match, Inter keeper Yann Sommer said that “It’s a shame.”
“Because we outplayed them in the first half, and we should have scored.”

“We created a lot of chances, and put them under a lot of pressure. But we weren’t able to deliver.”
“We have to keep our heads held high,” Sommer insisted. “There are still thirteen matches left to go, and that’s a lot.”
“Now let’s just focus on the next match, which we play at home on Saturday. We have to think one step at a time.”
And of Inter’s defending this season, Sommer acknowledged that “This season, opponents have been getting more chances than last one.”
“But sometimes there’s also a component of luck,” he continued.
“On Juventus’s goal, for example, Kolo Muani managed to find space between four players.”
Sommer admitted that “In these matches we have to defend better.”
“And after the first half we would have deserved at least a point.”
