The Nigerian international has been at Leicester for eight-and-a-half years, experiencing some real highs and disappointing lows in that period.

The latest setback came in the previous campaign, as the Midlands outfit were relegated from the Premier League with a whimper.

Wilfred Ndidi transfer latest as Everton and Man Utd consider triggering release clause

That has cast major doubt over the future of the midfielder, as it has been reported he has a £9m release clause that is active following relegation.

And, according to TalkSPORT, that has put Everton and United on alert, as they consider making a move for the 28-year-old as they look to beef up their respective squads.

The update claims the duo have a long-standing interest in Ndidi, as they had been keen on him 12 months ago before he signed a new deal at the King Power Stadium.

However, any move won’t be straightforward, as it’s also said that clubs from Saudi Arabia are also in the hunt for Ndidi’s signature.

Leicester City will be resigned to losing Wilfred Ndidi this summer

It’s very quiet at Leicester right now, which is far from ideal, as you would imagine a lot of change is going to happen in a relatively short space of time.

It’s still unclear whether Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in charge, and there is going to be a high turnover of players.

Of course, relegation comes at a financial cost, and the reality is that the higher earners will need to move on, and you would imagine Ndidi will fall into that category.

Realistically, nobody at Leicester would expect him to stick around, which is a shame as he would’ve been a quality operator in the Championship - as he proved in Enzo Maresca’s title-winning team.

But, the £9m release clause makes Ndidi an attractive option for buying clubs this summer, and it makes sense that there are Premier League clubs looking to bring him in, as he has coped at that level in the past.

So, it feels inevitable that Ndidi will depart, and it will be a shame for Leicester considering all he has contributed over the years, which includes being part of the team that won the FA Cup in 2021.
