While recent reports suggested that Nwaneri’s camp had made demands for increased game time, David Ornstein confirmed in his article for The Athletic last month that no such requests were made during the contract negotiations.
Instead, it was clear that Nwaneri is already receiving valuable minutes in the first team, with 37 appearances to his name in the 2024/25 season.
Speaking about the deal, Nwaneri said, ““Signing this contract means everything to me. I see this as my first real season in men’s senior football, as part of the squad in the changing room. I’m so excited for what I can bring to the team, I want to help us win as much as possible and bring happiness and glory to the club. This is where I feel at home.”
Arteta is reportedly planning to give the young midfielder a more prominent role in the coming seasons, particularly in a central role, moving away from the right-wing duties he was often asked to perform last term.
As Arsenal look to upgrade their attacking options, the arrival of Noni Madueke adds depth to the right-wing, which could see Nwaneri transition into a more central position.
While there was interest from Chelsea, who reportedly considered asking for Nwaneri as part of the Madueke deal, Arsenal made it clear they had no intention of parting ways with the highly rated teenager.
The Gunners are committed to his development, seeing him as a key figure in their long-term future.
