Chelsea attacker Estevao Willian enjoyed an unofficial debut to remember at Stamford Bridge.
The 18-year-old scored and gave an excellent account of himself against Bayer Leverkusen as the Blues won 2-0.
Chelsea dominated Erik ten Hag’s side from start to finish and showed no signs of rustiness from their FIFA Club World Cup break.
Estevao, lining up to the right of Cole Palmer, was electrifying every time he got on the ball. He created Chelsea’s first opening with a cutback cross that found Marc Cucurella.
The Spanish left-back could not convert, but it was a sign of what was to come from the Blues and Estevao.
It took Estevao less than 20 minutes to get on the scoresheet for Chelsea as he tucked away an opportunity after an audacious Palmer lob ricocheted off the bar.
The fans in attendance at Stamford Bridge loved what they saw from the former Palmeiras teenager and cheered whenever the ball got to him, which Palmer ensured.
Leverkusen goalkeeper Mark Flekken pulled off a stellar stop to keep Estevao from bagging a brace after he cut in on his left foot and unleashed a vicious hit.
Estevao should have secured a brace in the second half when another new Chelsea signing, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, burst past his man to set him up, but he fired wide.
Still, it was quite the introduction for Chelsea fans, who stood up and clapped him off as manager Enzo Maresca substituted him.
Football London rated him a 9/10, saying, “Found his feet incredibly quickly, looking bright from the very start.
“Deserved his goal at the back post and had already created two chances with his right foot before that.
“Could easily have scored again when cutting inside and firing at Mark Flekken. A stunning uncompetitive debut, even if he did miss a few shots to make it even better.”
Chelsea fans knew they had something special after he scored against the West London side in the Club World Cup. They will be eager to see more of the mesmerising youngster.
