Paris Saint-Germain have a major call to make: Is Gianluigi Donnarumma still their long-term solution in goal? His contract runs through 2026, but the pressure is mounting.

Since joining from AC Milan in 2021, Donnarumma has delivered some big moments—penalty saves against Liverpool, clutch stops against Aston Villa and Arsenal this season—but consistency has been an issue.

His stint in Paris has been marked by high-profile mistakes, most notably his blunder against Real Madrid in 2022, which still clouds perceptions of his dependability when it matters most.

With PSG now in the UEFA Champions League final and Donnarumma playing a key role in that run, the club has to decide if that’s enough to fully back him moving forward.

There’s also the question of what Donnarumma wants. A return to Serie A could be on the table. A reunion with AC Milan seems far-fetched given the tension with fans, but a move to one of their rivals wouldn’t be out of the blue.

Will PSG continue with Gianluigi Donnarumma?

Amid the rumors regarding Donnarumma’s future, ESPN’s Julien Laurens explained why he doesn’t see PSG deciding to cut ties with Donnarumma.

“Indeed, earlier this season, PSG’s sporting director Luis Campos and manager Luis Enrique were considering Donnarumma’s future after he made costly mistakes against Arsenal and Liverpool in Champions League,” Laurens wrote (h/t ESPN).

“But the Italian’s incredible displays recently, especially at Liverpool, Aston Villa, and in the two semifinal legs against Arsenal, have convinced them to keep him. They will be hoping that a deal can be wrapped up quickly.”

Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close eye on Italian international Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to a previous report from Fichajes. Since David de Gea’s departure, the club has struggled to find stability between the posts, and André Onana’s performances haven’t completely won over the decision-makers at Old Trafford.

United’s sporting directors see Donnarumma as a potential opportunity in the transfer market and are said to be prepared to offer around €60 million to sign him.

Meanwhile, journalist Alfredo Pedullà recently reported that Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Juventus are also interested in the goalkeeper, who could be on the move this summer if PSG doesn’t extend his contract.
