As the club makes strides in the three pillars of ESG – environmental, social and governance – Eintracht Frankfurt has entered into a partnership with PreZero Germany.

Eintracht Frankfurt continues to reach new heights in the implementation of its sustainability strategy. In the 2023 ESG rating (environmental, social and governance), the club has earned 70 of a possible 100 points for the first time, thereby underlining its commitment to a sustainable future.

In early 2021, Eintracht Frankfurt laid the methodological foundations for the continued improvement of its sustainability performance by developing an industry-specific ESG tool and rating system. This innovative, data-driven approach enables the club to develop targeted, sustainable projects and set its own standards in professional football. At the same time, the club is operating in a field that demands balanced decisions to ensure both sporting competitiveness as well as environmental, social and corporate responsibility.

Progress in all areas

Since the first ESG rating in 2021, the club has improved its score from 59 to 70 points. Social projects – in particular those in the areas of anti-discrimination and inclusion, such as the expansion of wheelchair spaces at Deutsche Bank Park – have contributed to an improvement in the social pillar (74/100 points). The club has also made great strides in terms of governance (70/100), with initiatives such as sustainable collections in merchandising and improved communication on ESG issues.

The environmental pillar, however, continues to pose a challenge, as the high consumption of resources and matchday mobility are at odds with environmental sustainability. That being the case, the latest ESG rating shows that, under the circumstances, Eintracht Frankfurt is adopting the right measures. Successful projects, including the construction of new solar power systems and the significant increase in bicycle parking spaces at Deutsche Bank Park, are evidence of the improvement on last year (65/100 points).

ECA Sustainability Award finalists

Eintracht Frankfurt’s efforts have also been recognised at European level. The project “From Waste to Wins: Eintracht Frankfurt’s Path to a Circular Economy” earned the club a place on the final shortlist for the ECA Sustainability Award, alongside Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool FC. Eintracht Frankfurt would like to congratulate Liverpool on winning the award this year.

Another important milestone, meanwhile, is the new partnership with leading full-service environmental company PreZero Germany. The aim of the collaboration is to promote a functioning circular economy based on a zero-waste approach, make waste management at Deutsche Bank Park, the ProfiCamp and Ahorn Camp Sportcamp fit for the future and develop sustainable solutions in the areas of resource conservation and recycling. “This collaboration helps us reduce our ecological footprint in the long term and establish innovative concepts for a sustainable stadium experience,” said Magdalena Jeckel, Head of ESG at Eintracht Frankfurt.

With the help of the sustainability advisory board and strategic partners, new paths will continue to be forged in the future in order to implement innovative solutions in the areas of circular economy, energy management and social responsibility.
