Luis Enrique believes Paris Saint-Germain are ‘the best team in the world’ after reaching the Champions League semi-finals.
PSG reached the last four of the Champions League after a 5-4 aggregate win over Aston Villa in the quarter-finals. The French champions raced into a two-goal lead in the second leg on Tuesday and survived a stirring fightback from the home side to progress.
It’s the second successive season that PSG have reached the semi-finals, while the French side have also been crowned Ligue 1 champions with six games to spare. PSG are the only side in Europe’s top five leagues to remain unbeaten in their domestic league this season.
The Parisians are chasing a treble this season and maiden Champions League triumph. Enrique, who won the trophy with Barcelona in 2014/15, believes he currently has the best side in world football at his disposal.
“I’m proud of my team. I think I have the best team in the world,” he told Amazon Prime Sport.
“I think so, simple as that,” he said when asked if the best team advanced against Aston Villa.
“We cannot forget, this is the Champions League and the other team has a lot of quality. Aston Villa played with a lot of intensity. The whole two matches, we deserved to win.
“The second year in a row in the semi-finals and we want to go into the next phase.”
Paris Saint-Germain will face either Real Madrid or Arsenal in the semi-finals. Arsenal lead 3-0 on aggregate ahead of the second leg of their quarter-final tie at the Bernabeu this evening.
