West Ham United have announced the signing of Sarah Brasero from Portuguese side Estoril Praia.
The talented midfielder will bring fresh ambition to the Women’s Super League side.
Brasero, 20, spent just one year in Portugal, after prior spells at Ipswich Town and Lewes.
Sarah Brasero is a young English midfielder who has joined West Ham United Women ahead of the 2025–26 season.
She brings with her experience at an international level, having featured for England’s Under-23s, and has tested herself in both English and European football.
Born in 2004, Brasero honed her skills in the UK before heading abroad for a season in Portugal, where she continued to grow as a creative and hard-working midfielder.
She is now ready to return home and take on the challenge of the Women’s Super League.
Playing in Portugal was a big step for Sarah as she adapted to a new culture, a different style of play, and learned how to handle new challenges away from England.
She got valuable minutes on the pitch and grew in confidence. She’s brought all of that back with her to England as she starts this new chapter with West Ham.
In her first interview after signing, Sarah Brasero explained what drew her to West Ham.
“It feels great to be joining such an ambitious Club,” she said.
“I’ve had some great conversations with Rehanne Skinner already. She’s a manager who likes to develop young players, and as a young player with a lot of ambition, that’s exactly what I’m looking for at this stage in my career.”
She also mentioned the positive impact of speaking with another young England player already at the club.
“I spoke to Anouk Denton, who I know from the England U23 set-up, and she had nothing but good things to say about the Club, so I’m really looking forward to getting started now.”
Manager Rehanne Skinner also expressed her enthusiasm for the signing.
“Sarah is a creative and hard-working midfielder who has gained valuable experience playing abroad in Portugal last season, which has contributed significantly to her development,” Skinner said.
“She has been a regular within the England youth international pathway. We are excited to support the next stage of her development within the WSL.”
Brasero joins West Ham with a three-year contract and will wear the number 21 shirt. With her technical ability and ambition, she adds fresh energy to a team that is building toward the future.
West Ham fans will be eager to see how this talented midfielder settles into life in the Women’s Super League.
West Ham will discover who they will open the 2025-26 WSL season against when the fixtures are announced next week.
