England vs Latvia Match Preview: Kick-off, Team News and How to Watch

Thomas Tuchel’s tenure as England manager began with precision and control. A 2-0 win over Albania may not have set pulses racing, but it marked the start of a new chapter—methodical, composed and already showing signs of evolution. Now, Latvia visit Wembley, and Tuchel has the opportunity to make it two wins from two in England’s 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Victory would cement England’s position at the top of Group K and extend their perfect start under the German. For Latvia, it’s a chance to build on their own opening victory over Andorra, but they travel to Wembley as firm underdogs.

Tuchel Set to Rotate as England Target Group K Control

Tuchel’s first squad selection raised a few eyebrows, but it also offered glimpses of a new era. Myles Lewis-Skelly and Dan Burn were both handed debuts, while Reece James, Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson were all given valuable minutes. Harry Kane, ever dependable, found the net again, while Lewis-Skelly capped his debut with a goal.

Now comes the challenge of keeping the momentum while exploring depth. Injuries, as ever, play their part.

Anthony Gordon, so bright for Newcastle and now seemingly in Tuchel’s plans, is expected to miss out after picking up a hip injury during the Albania win. “He looks injured,” Tuchel confirmed. “First of all I thought it was his stomach but it’s his hip and it does not look good.”

Should Gordon be ruled out, either Morgan Gibbs-White or Jarell Quansah could come into the matchday squad, having been left out of Friday’s line-up.

Prediction and Expectations

Latvia arrive with a win under their belt, but this is a different level of opposition. England, even with rotation, should have more than enough to control proceedings. The Albania fixture was widely viewed as the more challenging of the double-header. England navigated that with assurance. Against Latvia, they will look to build fluency.

Expect changes in personnel but not in discipline. Tuchel’s system relies on structure, with or without his first-choice XI. England’s quality should shine through.

Prediction: England 4-0 Latvia
