Chloe Kelly is officially an Arsenal player as she joins on a permanent deal, following a successful loan spell from Manchester City last season.

The 27-year-old joined on loan in January after falling out of favour at Manchester City.

It was a move that paid for the England star, who was part of the starting line-up that beat Barcelona in the final of the Women’s Champions League.

The loan move also helped Kelly in her quest to make Sarina Wiegman’s England squad for Women’s Euro 2025.

She will hope to help the Lionesses defend the trophy which Kelly helped clinch by scoring the winning goal against Germany in the final three years ago.

Kelly’s contract with Manchester City expired at the end of June, and she is now officially an Arsenal player after signing a permanent deal.

Why has Chloe Kelly joined Arsenal?

Chloe Kelly joins Arsenal after her days at Manchester City appeared numbered when she wrote on Instagram last season that she wanted “to be happy again”.

She criticised City insisting they were dictating who she could or could not join. Kelly quickly established herself on loan at Arsenal, and now says it “feels amazing” to sign a permanent deal.

The Lioness told Arsenal’s official website: “To be at this club is so special and as soon as I stepped foot in here in January, I knew this was the place that I wanted to spend a long time at.

“The fans at this club are so special. When I was playing against Arsenal, I always loved listening to their fans chant the songs and now to be an Arsenal player and to have them on my side and singing my name is so special. They’re the best fans in the world.

“I did say I came here to win trophies. After winning the Champions League, I didn’t realise it would be that soon.”

Kelly had prior history at Arsenal after making 13 appearances between 2015 and 2018 before joining Everton.

Arsenal manager, Renee Slegers said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to make Chloe a permanent signing for us. She had a great impact for us and played an important role in what we achieved here last season, and I know she shares our ambition to compete for more.”

Chloe Kelly made a big impact for Arsenal during the second-half of the 2024-25 season.

The England star, who plays on the right wing, offered a new threat for the Gunners which helped them both domestically and in Europe.

Although Arsenal finished second in the Women’s Super League behind Chelsea, Kelly contributed to their Champions League success.

Kelly played in the final as Arsenal upset the odds to beat tournament favourites Barcelona. During her loan spell at Arsenal, she scored two goals in 13 appearances.

She was part of the squad that won Euro 2022, scoring the winning goal against Germany in extra-time in the final.
