Sarina Wiegman and her 23-player squad will head to their base in Zurich next week, ahead of their Euro 2025 opener against France on Saturday, June 5th.
England are in a tricky group D which also includes Euro 2017 winners the Netherlands and Wales. This summer’s Euro 2025 fixture schedule sees England play the Netherlands on June 9th, before finishing the group against Wales on June 13th.
The Lionesses will have their final game before the tournament against Jamaica at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium on Sunday, June 29th.
Against Jamaica, the England players will sport their Women’s Euro 2025 squad numbers for the first time on the back of their shirts.
Hannah Hampton is England’s new No.1 at Women’s Euro 2025 following the retirement of Mary Earps.
The Chelsea goalkeeper was already starting to get the nod over Earps in recent England squads. Reports suggested that Earps decided to retire from international football after discovering that Sarina Wiegman would start Hampton at the Euros.
However, not all of the players who have received squad numbers from one to 11 are expected to start for England in their Euro 2025 opener against France.
Lauren James has been handed the number seven shirt, but is expected to be in a battle to start on the right side of attack with Beth Mead (No.9).
Mead, who won the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament award at Euro 2022, is more likely to get the nod, with James recently overcoming a hamstring injury.
Alessia Russo is almost certain to start up front despite receiving the number 23 shirt. Russo, also uses the number for Arsenal, and chose it as she is a big fan of legendary basketball star Michael Jordan.
There is also a fight for the left-back position between Niamh Charles and Jess Carter. Charles has received the number three shirt, hinting that she will get the nod over Carter to begin Euro 2025.
In defence, right-back Lucy Bronze and centre-backs Leah Williamson and Alex Greenwood are expected to start. This has been supported by their low squad numbers.
Keira Walsh is expected to start in midfield with Georgia Stanway. Ella Toone has received the number 10 shirt which could hint at her starting ahead of the likes of Grace Clinton and Jess Park.
Meanwhile, Lauren Hemp is expected to start on the left-side of attack and has been given the number 11 jersey.
