The Emirates Stadium has had plenty of work done over the summer, with supporters set to notice big changes when the new season gets underway. While talk of taking capacity beyond 80,000 by 2028 grabs attention, the immediate upgrades are more about comfort, access, and the sort of details that can make or break a matchday.
The club brought in Populous to look at expansion options, but the reality is nothing moves forward without transport upgrades, especially at Holloway Road. That is years away. For now, fans get reliable 5G, brighter LED lights, new HD screens, and 360-degree displays in the lower tiers.
Inside, hospitality has been refitted, lounges upgraded, and general admission areas improved. Better wheelchair access, new seating, and self-service bars are all part of a plan to cut queues and get supporters back to their seats quicker. Entry should also be smoother thanks to new smart scanning at the turnstiles.
Outside, new banners and digital signage now wrap the ground. The club also opted against hosting Euro 2028 games so the Emirates can stay open for concerts, esports, and community events, following the multi-use model clubs like Real Madrid have already moved to.
Perhaps the most significant change is in the women’s game. Every WSL home fixture and all Champions League knockout matches will now be played at the Emirates. After last season’s record attendances, with multiple games breaking the 40,000 barrier, the decision is a statement of intent.
This is the biggest overhaul since the ground opened in 2006. It’s not about shiny gimmicks, but about making it easier and better to be a supporter. Faster entry, shorter queues, better visibility, and improved connectivity are small things that add up, and fans will feel the difference straight away.
