Tottenham face Eintracht Frankfurt tonight with a place in the Europa League semi-final up for grabs.

The second leg is finely poised following last Thursday’s 1-1 draw in north London.

Heung-min Son, Wilson Odobert and Kevin Danso were all pictured in training ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Germany. However, the Spurs captain is the only senior member not to travel to Frankfurt due to a persistent foot issue.

Odobert didn’t make the squad for the 4-2 loss to Wolves on Sunday amid concerns over a slight hamstring issue but has recovered in time for tonight’s game. Danso has missed the last six games with a hamstring injury and will be assessed to determine his availability. Dejan Kulusevski made his first appearance in six weeks off the bench at Molineux and he could be integrated into the starting berth.

Frankfurt have home advantage in the second leg as they look to lift the Europa League for the second time in four seasons.

First-choice goalkeeper Kevin Trapp has recovered from a slight knock and could be in between the sticks tonight. Kaua Santos deputised astutely in the first leg, which leaves manager Dino Toppmoller with a tough decision to make. Ansgar Knauff’s condition will be monitored after missing the last few weeks of action.

Form

Frankfurt: WWLDW

Frankfurt were victorious at the weekend as they easily dispatched FC Heidenheim 3-0 at home.

Hugo Ekitike was instrumental once again as he scored his 21st of the season to complete the accomplished display.

Three points for Dino Toppmoller and his players ensured they remain in third position in the Bundesliga. Following Mainz’s loss to Hoffenheim, Frankfurt now have a five-point cushion inside the Champions League qualification places.

The German outfit are unbeaten at home in the Europa League this term. Slavia Prague, RFS, Ferencvaros and most recently Ajax have all visited the Deutsche Bank Park and returned home empty-handed.

Tottenham: LLWDL

Four catastrophic individual errors saw Tottenham lose 4-2 at Wolves on Sunday.

Spurs were two goals down at the break courtesy of unconvincing goalkeeping from Guglielmo Vicario and an own goal from Djed Spence.

Mathys Tel halved the deficit, but his goal was instantly cancelled out by Jorgen Strand Larsen following Cristian Romero’s mistake.

Richarlison gave the North Londoners a glimmer of hope late on, but within seconds Lucas Bergvall was dispossessed by Matheus Cunha who stroked in the fourth.

It was a 17th league defeat of the season for Spurs and leaves them only two points off 17th position.

Their record in Germany doesn’t bode well for the Lilywhites. Spurs have lost six of their last seven knockout matches in the country. Ange Postecoglou is under no illusion over the importance of tonight’s result to his tenure.

Last Meeting: Tottenham 1-1 Frankfurt, Europa League, 10th April 2025

It was honours even in the first leg as Tottenham and Frankfurt played out a 1-1 draw in North London.

The hosts had plenty of chances to win on the night, but young goalkeeper Kaua Santos was in inspired form for the German outfit.

A moment of magic from Hugo Ekitike gave Frankfurt an abrupt lead that stunned the home crowd. The Frenchman drove at Pedro Porro, before cutting inside and firing a rasping strike that arrowed into the bottom corner.

Tottenham responded well to the early setback and fervently pushed for parity. Dominic Solanke’s tame header didn’t trouble the goalkeeper, although it did represent a shift in momentum.

Midway through the first period, Ange Postecoglou’s side made their possession count with a well-worked equaliser. James Maddison, who was partly at fault for the opening goal, got to the byline and drilled the ball into the onrushing Porro.

The pass was slightly behind the full-back, but he improvised expertly to skilfully flick it into the back of the net.

Tottenham dominated the second period but a winning goal proved elusive on the night. Lucas Bergvall clattered the upright with a thumping strike from range that looked destined for the top corner. Seconds later, Santos produced a strong stop to deny Heung-min Son’s signature curling effort.

From the resulting corner, Spurs struck the woodwork again as Rodrigo Bentancur’s header grazed the crossbar. In the dying embers, Micky van de Ven had a glorious opportunity to find a last-gasp winner. However, the Dutchman couldn’t get proper purchase on his header which allowed the goalkeeper to tip it away from danger.

The first leg ended level, a disappointing outcome for Spurs considering their array of chances.
