Eddie Howe and Newcastle United looking to build on two very good performances, with luck going against them as NUFC have picked up only one point so far.

On Friday, Eddie Howe giving these key updates.

Eddie Howe Leeds press conference – 29 August 2025:

“The start of the game is going to very important fur us.

“They have invested in a lot of very good players.

“I love going to Elland Road, it is a stadium full of emotion, and we will need to use that emotion this weekend.”

Eddie Howe with team news for Saturday:

“Relatively good news on both players [Sandro Tonali and Joelinton].

“When they left the pitch we feared they may be out long-term.

“Joey’s scan was good but he will miss this weekend, we’ll hopefully get him back for the game after the international break.

“Sandro’s injury isn’t serious, he is battling to be fit for tomorrow.

“Fabian Schär is available. We followed concussion protocols, he will be fine to play.”

Eddie Howe on Will Osula:

“I thought Will did really well when he came on on Monday night.

“He gave us renewed energy, he has improved a lot from this time last year.

“He has gained the knowledge and experience of how we play, he is gaining in confidence and that goal will do him the world of good.”

Eddie Howe on the Champions League draw:

“Really interesting, some great games, exciting prospects.

“Very competitive matches, what an opportunity to enjoy more games in the Champions League.

“It will be tough and challenging but we look forward to it.

“Barcelona at home – an amazing fixture for us, you get instantly drawn to that with the links with Sir Bobby Robson and the history of the club.”

Eddie Howe on Alexander Isak:

“Difficult for me to give you clarity on his future.

“I don’t know what the future holds.

“I’m not dealing with it myself.

“I have got no update.

“Concentrating on bringing players to the club.”

Eddie Howe on the imminent arrival of Nick Woltemade:

“Positive signs (in the transfer market).

“Things are moving and developing in a good way at the moment.

“Until things are done, I can’t confirm anything.

“I don’t think that a debut against Leeds will be possible (Woltemade would need to be officially signed and registered by 12 noon on Friday to be able to play against Leeds).

“The most important thing is to bring a centre-forward in, which we have been working on all summer, we are getting closer.

“The last month has been relentless, a demanding transfer window in lots of different ways.

“The work that has gone in, it has been detailed, it has to be.

“We have to bring the right players to this football club.

“We look like we are getting closer, we are certainly working in the right direction.

“It will be good when the window closes, so we can focus on what we do.

“The emotion around the window will be gone but there are benefits to this window.

“We are still looking and there is an opportunity to improve the squad further, let’s get the deal we are working on done.”
