A mural celebrating Arsenal’s imminent signing of Eberechi Eze has been defaced within hours of its creation.
The Gunners swooped in to hijack a deal for boyhood fans Eze after Tottenham had agreed terms with both the player and current club Crystal Palace.
Eze has undergone a medical with Arsenal and an official announcement of a £67.5million deal is expected imminently.
Meanwhile, Arsenal fan ‘North Bansky’ celebrated the deal by stencilling an image of Eze on a tunnel outside the Emirates Stadium. The mural showed Eze in an Arsenal shirt doing his trademark celebration.
However, the same artist posted online on Saturday morning which showed that the mural had been defaced with white paint. The word ‘Yids’, an anti-Semitic slur that has been reclaimed by Tottenham fans, was painted nearby, suggesting that Spurs supporters were behind the vandalism.
Reacting to the vandalism artist North Banksy posted on X: “Well, this is annoying. All that hard work gone in seconds – a bit like Tottenham must feel about their Eze transfer dealings!
“We will be back soon…”
Arsenal are in action on Saturday, taking on Leeds in their first home game of the new Premier League season.
