Manchester City take on Arsenal in a return to Premier League action following their midweek outing in the UEFA Champions League on matchday one of the tournament.

Pep Guardiola and his players will be hoping to open up a five-point gap over their top-flight title challengers from the past two seasons with a win on Sunday afternoon, having recorded victories in all of their opening four matches.

City have been in fine goalscoring form along the way, with Erling Haaland in particular striking fear into opposition defenders across the division with his nine goals in his opening four appearances of the season, including back-to-back hat-tricks.

As for their opponents Arsenal this weekend, Mikel Arteta’s side haven’t been too far off a similar success story so far, recording three victories but falling to a home draw against Brighton & Hove Albion.

City were left sweating on the fitness of Kevin De Bruyne in the run-up to Sunday afternoon’s meeting, after the Belgian was withdrawn at half-time of their 0-0 draw with Inter Milan on Wednesday night with what appeared to be a groin problem.

Pep Guardiola said that the 33-year-old had recovered to some extent, but a final decision would be taken on his availability on Saturday during the club’s final training session before the match.

As for Arsenal, their most notable absentee comes in the centre of the park as Arteta and his staff will have to structure a starting line-up without their club captain, Martin Odegaard – who misses out with an ankle injury sustained on international duty with Norway.

Ahead of the confirmed team news from the Etihad Stadium this weekend, some initial information has began to filter throughout social media from journalists and sources regarding Manchester City’s starting line-up.

According to the information of Jack Gaughan reporting on the ground at the Etihad Stadium, Kevin De Bruyne misses out through injury, despite late hopes from Pep Guardiola during his press conference on Friday of an inclusion.

Additional reporting from the Manchester Evening News’ Simon Bajkowski reveals that Jeremy Doku is among the starting line-up for Manchester City against Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta are expected to confirmed their respective Manchester City and Arsenal starting line-ups around 15:15 (UK) on Sunday afternoon.

Now confirmed.
