The Black Cats had been searching for a new manager for some time, as they sacked Mick Beale in February and placed caretaker Mike Dodds in charge for the rest of the campaign.

Ever since the 2023/24 season finished, one which was hugely disappointing for Sunderland, as they finished in 16th place on 56 points, just six adrift of the play-offs, the club has been trying to find a new manager.

There has been a sense of frustration at the club in terms of their search, while fans have also been left unimpressed, but that is now finally over and Le Bris has been given the position, something that Yorke believes is a worry.

Dwight Yorke is someone who knows Sunderland Football Club very well, having represented them during his fantastic playing career.

Yorke has also been linked with taking over at the football club in the past, and this time it wasn’t meant to be, as he confirmed he offered himself for the role.

But he has now spoken about the club appointing Le Bris as their new manager, and he believes the Frenchman’s appointment is a worry as he will struggle.

Via Best Online Poker Sites, Yorke said: “The Sunderland situation is a bit worrying, they clearly didn't want a good manager when I offered myself to them.

“I don't know how I get overlooked, I know the Championship is a tough league, but I've played in it and won it, I know Sunderland as a club and my ambition of managing in the Premier League fits in with Sunderland's ambition to get promoted.

“Sunderland have offered the job to someone who doesn't have the experience of competing in the Championship but may have slightly more experience as a manager than me.

“Often enough, we see those experienced managers struggle and the ones who are hungry, like me, can drive these clubs to success."

The EFL fixtures have been released on Wednesday and Sunderland have learned who their first opponents of the new campaign are.

The Black Cats get their 2024/25 season underway with a trip to Wales to face Cardiff City.

Both games between the two sides were evenly split last season, as the Bluebirds won the first meeting at the Stadium of Light thanks to a late winner. Then the reverse fixture saw Sunderland claim the spoils as they secured a 2-0 win in March.

Le Bris will be keen to have a strong pre-season, so his side is ready for their first taste of the campaign because pressure will be on him to get the club near the play-off places.

There is no doubt about it that all eyes will be on Sunderland and Le Bris, as it’s an appointment that came out of nowhere.

The Black Cats seemed to have a few names in mind when it came to finding their new manager, but those targets soon became out of reach.

Therefore, their search took longer than they probably expected, and it ended with them appointing Le Bris.

The Frenchman is unknown to the English game, especially the Championship, so there is already pressure on him, as there will be supporters who may not be sure.

It is a big gamble from Sunderland to go down this route of manager, but it could be something that is looked back on with pride, as they made a surprise but correct decision depending on how the new season goes.
