Bournemouth have completed the signing of Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea.

The Serb moves to the Cherries for a fee of £25million, which Standard Sport previously reported had been agreed over the weekend.

Petrovic, who spent last season on loan at the Blues’ sister club Strasbourg, impressed during his time in Ligue 1 and many Chelsea fans thought that he might be given a chance under Enzo Maresca.

That, however, did not materialise, and he has departed Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis.

Petrovic signed for Chelsea back in 2023, when the Blues bought him for £14m from MLS outfit New England Revolution.

He becomes the second Chelsea goalkeeper to move to the Dorset coast in two years, following in the footsteps of Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga, who joined Andoni Iraola’s side on loan last term before landing a move to Arsenal this summer.

Petrovic has signed a five-year deal at the Vitality Stadium, and he will join his new side on their pre-season tour of the United States.

The 25-year-old has played 23 times in the Premier League to date, and last season helped Strasbourg to a seventh-placed finish in Ligue 1 and Europa Conference League qualification.

“I’m really happy to be here,” Petrovic said.

“I came to Bournemouth because I want to grow and I want to play at the best level. Together with this club, with these facilities, I think we can achieve it. I want to help the team get the results, improve every day and be a better player.”

“I’m really pleased to bring Djordje to the club. The opportunity to sign a player of his calibre in the market was one we had to take, particularly given how vital the position of a goalkeeper is.

The Cherries’ president of football operations Tiago Pinto said of his latest recruit: “We have been looking for the right talent to invest in within this area of the pitch and Djordje has very impressive qualities, as well as a lot of experience for someone who is still young.

“We are excited that he is the one coming to join our project and look forward to working with him.”
