Toulouse FC have confirmed that Djibril Sidibé (32) will remain at the club for the upcoming 2025/26 season after his one-year contract extension clause was officially triggered.
The 2018 World Cup winner joined the Violets last summer on a free transfer following a spell with AEK Athens. His initial one-year deal included a conditional option for an additional year, which has now been activated after the defender made 26 Ligue 1 appearances – surpassing the 20-match threshold set out in the agreement.
Sidibé’s future had been briefly cast into doubt due to administrative changes at the club. The departure of president Damien Comolli, who had negotiated the original deal, delayed the activation of the clause. However, with Neil Chugani stepping in as interim president, the club has honoured the agreement, allowing the 32-year-old to continue in Haute-Garonne.
According to L’Équipe, Sidibé had also reached a verbal agreement with Comolli for a potential extension through to the 2026/27 season. That understanding is now considered void, with the club’s new leadership reportedly citing the player’s age as a barrier to further renewal.
Despite battling an Achilles tendon injury that kept him out early in the season, Sidibé established himself as a reliable figure in a young TFC squad, primarily operating as the right-sided centre-back in a three-man defence.GFFN | George Boxall
