Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has on Saturday moved to reveal his appreciation for Hansi Flick’s Barcelona side.
Atléti are of course fresh something of an outing to forget this afternoon.
After making the trip to relegation-battling Leganés in the midst of a 15-game win streak, the Rojiblancos were widely expected to make short work of their hosts.
When all was said and done, however, quite the opposite played out.
This came as a solitary strike on the part of Matija Nastasić proved enough to guide Leganés to the right side of a 1-0 result.
Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle in Spain’s capital, the surprising manner in which his side were put to the sword was in turn put to the aforementioned Diego Simeone.
And the Argentine, in his response, made use of the opportunity to hail title rivals Barcelona:
“Spanish football shows week after week that any stadium can be tough. I think Barcelona, despite losing the most matches among the top teams, is the one that has consistently seemed capable of beating any opponent.”
