The Rams are searching for attacking talent this January, and a deal for the 21-year-old could be struck up.

Derby County are continuing to push for a loan move for Aston Villa's Louie Barry, despite the Premier League outfit considering a sale of the talented youngster.

That's according to Alan Nixon via Patreon, with the Rams currently in a battle to secure the signature of the 21-year-old.

Barry returned to Villa last week after spending the last 18 months with Stockport County, helping them to promotion to League One, where they have enjoyed an excellent start to the season.

However, his success in the third tier proved too great for the West Midlands side to keep him in the division, and instead he made his way back to his parent club with the hope of being loaned out to the Championship, with Derby keen.

Derby close in on Barry deal

The Rams are still pushing for a move for Barry, and although there has been a potential desire for Villa to sell him this month, there is hope that Paul Warne's side could be the perfect place for him to develop as a player.

Derby will be able to offer the 21-year-old game time, and this could help in their bid to bring him to Pride Park Stadium, especially as there have been significant offers for the forward, as per Nixon.

The East Midlands side are one of several clubs in the Championship interested in Barry, with Leeds United and Sunderland also previously being linked with a move for him. However, his chances of playing regularly do not quite match those of the Rams.

A loan deal would give more time for Villa to figure out the former Stockport star's future, and he may help boost the potential fee that they get for him in the summer transfer window.

Derby need to bring in more goals

The last few weeks have been difficult for Warne's side, and despite an impressive win against West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day, results have been poor.

The Rams have lost four of their last five matches, and they have struggled to be clinical in front of goal on multiple occasions, including against Bristol City on Saturday.

Jerry Yates, who has done well since joining on loan from Swansea City in the summer, has a lot of pressure on him to not only perform, but also be available every single week. Barry could help take some of this pressure off him, and he proved in League One that he can score goals consistently.

He left the third tier as the top scorer, and although he will be overtaken by the time the season comes to a close, there is no doubt that his goals were one of the greatest reasons behind Stockport's form at the start of the campaign.

Derby need reinforcements, and they need them quickly. If Barry does join, then he will only help in the Rams' fight against relegation, and he will gain valuable experience in the Championship.
