Derby County are reportedly plotting a move for ex-Sheffield United forward Rhian Brewster.

John Eustace and Co. have been busy this summer, keen to improve upon their 19th-place finish of last term.

The Rams have made seven new additions, including forwards such as Patrick Agyemang and Carlton Morris.

However, Derby aren’t done yet in their pursuit of more firepower.

According to BBC Derby journalist Dominic Dietrich via X, Eustace’s side hold an interest in acquiring Brewster’s services.

The 25-year-old became a free agent earlier this summer following the expiration of his contract at Sheffield United, who he had joined from Liverpool in 2020 for £23.5 million.

Football League World’s Derby County fan pundit, Shaun Woodward, believes that the Rams should think twice about a move for Brewster.

“It's a strange one for me because Rhian Brewster has gone for big money in his short career,” Shaun began.

“He's got a lot of potential, but his injury record and his patchy form over the last two or three years means there's a big question mark over what level he really is at.

“I'm not saying he can't become a really good Championship player because there's probably still a decent player in there, hence why he's gone for good money in the past.

“But I would stay well clear. We've got enough now going forward. Once everyone's fit, we've got Patrick Agyemang, Carlton Morris, Lars-Jørgen Salvesen.

“We've got Andreas Weimann and also Charles Agbawodikeizu from our youth system, who looks such a prospect. We will be having him in around the first-team as well.

“So, we've got more than enough going forward once everyone's fit. I really don't understand why we're looking at another striker because there's other areas in the pitch that we desperately need to strengthen.

“I think attacking-wise, we're fine now. So, I'd steer well clear of Brewster.”

Derby County could invest their resources elsewhere

Brewster is just 25 years of age and still has a great deal of potential to realise, showing glimpses of his talent throughout five years with Sheffield United.

However, a mix of injury issues and inconsistent performances ultimately never allowed the 25-year-old to establish himself in the Blades’ starting XI.

Derby County have already forked out hefty fees for Agyemang and Morris, so it would make little sense to outlay what is sure to be a substantial wage package on Brewster - per Capology, he was earning £35k-a-week at Sheffield United.

Instead, they should invest that money in other areas of the squad and boost their overall chances of fighting higher up the Championship in doing so.
