Watford and Derby County supporters would have enjoyed seeing Matej Vydra score against Manchester United in the Europa League
Viktoria Plzen star Matej Vydra is a journeyman striker who had stints with five different English clubs before returning to his native Czechia, but some of the most memorable times of his career came when he was plying his trade for Watford and later Derby County.
The 32-year-old has also plied his trade for Burnley, West Bromwich Albion, and Reading, but it is both Hornets and Rams supporters who will hold him in the highest regard in the EFL.
The Vicarage Road faithful may have been somewhat sceptical when their club signed Vydra on loan from Italian Serie A side Udinese ahead of the 2012/13 Championship season.
Prior to his Hornets stint, he did not boast a promising goal-scoring record, and in fact, made just two appearances while on loan with Belgian side Club Brugge for the 2011/12 season.
However, any doubts that Hornets supporters had regarding Vydra's ability were soon quashed by the striker, as he scored 22 goals in 44 second-tier appearances, which fired the Hertfordshire side to a third place finish.
Having seen his prolific exploits in the Championship at Vicarage Road, West Brom were the next English club to snap him up on loan from Udinese, but he failed to deliver for the Baggies, who were then in the Premier League.
But upon his Hornets return for the 2014/15 campaign, Vydra had once again established his clinical instincts, and notched 16 goals in 42 appearances, which was enough to secure automatic promotion for his side.
The striker would subsequently struggle to make his mark at Premier League level for the Hertfordshire outfit, and subsequently spent the majority of the 2015/16 season on loan with Reading, then of the Championship.
The Czechia international then left Watford in favour of joining Derby ahead of the 2016/17 second-tier season but managed just five goals in 33 league outings.
But during the subsequent season, he showed the Rams faithful exactly the same goal-scoring panache he had displayed during his Hornets days, with a return of 21 goals in 42 appearances, which fired the Pride Park outfit to a play-off position.
After Vydra was such a quality player for the Rams and the Hornets at Championship level, both sets of supporters will have been delighted to see their former striker profit from Man United's defensive mishap against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday night.
United goalkeeper Andre Onana was attempting to build an attack from the back for the Red Devils, but his poorly weighted pass in the 48th minute instead found Plzen's Pavel Sulc, who squared the ball to Vydra.
The ex-Hornets and Rams man duly obliged and stroked the ball home while Onana was caught in no man's land, but was eventually relieved as Ruben Amorim's side emerged as 2-1 winners courtesy of substitute Rasmus Hojlund's brace.
While Vydra's goal was a real highlight of an entertaining Europa League tie, he was a constant danger for Plzen, and almost opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time, only to see his first effort on target saved by the Red Devils goalkeeper, prior to his subsequent mishap.
Both Rams and Hornets supporters will be proud to see that, at the age of 32, their respective clubs' former star striker is still able to cause problems on the big stage.
