With the games coming thick and fast before Christmas, the importance of the next few weeks can not be ignored.

The first challenge for the Reds; Real Madrid at Anfield.

Two teams who have dominated Europe in the past decades lock horns once again, but this meeting feels different.

Liverpool are flying in both the Premier League and Champions League, topping both tables. Madrid in comparison have struggled in Europe this season, sitting 17th in the new format stage.

They come to Anfield having won their last two games, scoring seven and conceding none. But Carlo Ancelotti’s side are in the midst of a injury crisis which Arne Slot’s men could capitalize on.

Madrid's injury crisis

News broke earlier today that Vinicius Jr. would not be available for the clash against the Reds on Wednesday having suffered a leg injury in last night's game against Leganes.

This adds to Ancelotti’s already strong woes. As well as Vinicius, Madrid’s squad list was released for the game this week, with some key players absent.

This includes Rodrygo, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal and David Alaba.

Lucas Vasquez passed a late fitness test to be included but altogether, the squad looks depleted.

In a previous report by Anfield Watch, it stated that Real have already suffered 25 separate injuries since the start of the season with fitness coach Antonio Pintus coming under pressure for this poor record.

Madrid are lacking effort, spirit and quality at this moment in time. But things can change in the blink of an eye.

Kylian Mbappe will be deployed on the left-wing in midweek, his most favoured position. He will be full of confidence and eager to prove a point.

Liverpool have the advantage, but need to be wary of the quality still present in the Spanish giants team.
