After what can only be described as a cagey first half and woeful error leading to the opener, Manchester United secured a win in style during the closing stages of tonight’s tie.
The result saw United move up the Europa League table to the automatic qualification spots, although there are still a handful of fixtures currently being played out, which may change how the standings look come 11pm.
Nevertheless, that kind of resilience to complete a spirited turnaround has been missing from that side for quite some time. Under Erik ten Hag, it often seemed to be the opposite case; the Reds would take leads before capitulating and falling to hefty defeats.
It marked a first European victory on foreign soil in over 20 months – the most recent prior to this evening was against Real Betis in March 2023. Overcoming such longstanding records may be insignificant to some fans, but it’s the exact kind of feat Ruben Amorim will relish to know he got his side on the right track.

Credit must be given to the likes of Amad Diallo, Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund for their efforts in sealing all three points in Czechia, the latter adding another two goals to his account and therefore taking his tally up to seven for the season.
The Dane – hailed as an ‘exceptional talent’ by teammate Harry Maguire – has struggled to really maintain prolific, consistent goalscoring form since his big-money move. His most notable run came after he netted his maiden goal on Boxing Day last year; Hojlund found the back of the net seven times in six straight Premier League outings – while also notching two assists – and became the youngest player in history to do so.
However, an ill-timed muscle injury put an end to his scintillating streak, and he went on to score only three times in the remaining ten league games upon his return to action.
Alas, when he was there to capitalise on Amad’s parried effort and clinically convert Fernandes’ set-piece, it demonstrated the exact kind of traits supporters have been waiting to see from their No.9.
Samuel Luckhurst echoed the sentiment after the equaliser, saying: “No surprise Amad makes something happen, even if there was a little luck involved. Good habit of Hojlund to start scoring rebound goals.”
