Dayot Upamecano (26) is demanding a considerable salary increase in order to extend his contract with Bayern Munich, according to a report from L’Équipe. Negotiations on a contract extension between the Bundesliga champions and the France international defender are ongoing. The defender’s current deal expires in 2026.
Upamecano feels comfortable in Munich and has a positive relationship with the club’s head coach, Vincent Kompany. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old will not extend his contract with the Bavarian outfit without a large salary increase. The Frenchman believes he deserves a salary that cements his place as one of the ‘specialists’ in his position, L’Équipe understands.
Contract negotiations between Upamecano and Bayern could drag on for several months. The club will be keen to avoid the situation that surrounded Alphonso Davies last season, as his contract approached expiry before a breakthrough in negotiations towards the end of the season which saw the Canadian international extend his contract.
