Dave Victor, Leyton Orient reporter: The players that could cause Brentford problems in Carabao Cup | OneFootball

Leyton Orient reporter and BBC commentator Dave Victor has highlighted the players that Brentford need to keep an eye on ahead of the Carabao Cup clash at Gtech Community Stadium on Tuesday night.

Sorry to start on a negative note, but the league results have not been positive for Leyton Orient so far this season: at the time of writing, they are in the relegation zone after five games. What have you made of what you've seen so far?

It was a tough start, with Bolton, Charlton and Birmingham first up. We knew it was going to be tough but, in each of those games, Orient competed and came very close.

There were mistakes, in particular from the goalkeeper Zach Hemming against both Bolton and Birmingham, and Charlton scored in second-half injury time.

What happened in all of those three games was that the opposition simply had stronger substitute benches and the players that came on made the difference.

The Shrewsbury game was the real disappointment because Orient did not compete in a match that, on paper, they should have done so much better in.

It has been a different story in the Carabao Cup, where they have beaten Newport and Millwall on the way to the third round for the 12th time in history. How valuable has that boost been?

The performance in the Millwall match was outstanding and three days later, with what happened at Shrewsbury, was awful - Richie Wellens described it as the worst performance in the two-and-a-half years he has been at Brisbane Road and he could not understand why.

As always happens in cup games, he made eight changes for Millwall and further changes for Shrewsbury, thinking the players coming in would be fresher and fitter, but they did not look that way, so he was scratching his head afterwards.

When things aren't going well at a club, the first thought - rightly or wrongly - is about the pressure the manager might be under. Do you think Wellens is under any at this moment in time?

No: this time last year, Port Vale were either top or very near it and they were relegated!

You have to remember how early in the campaign we are and how difficult on paper, as well as on the pitch, Orient's start to the season was. I cannot imagine any side in League One would have had a tougher start.

Are the club targeting a cup run this season?

It would be a bonus. It has not happened under Richie Wellens and, in terms of budgets and suchlike, it could have an impact on what is possible in January because the club is running on a realistic budget, which is tough to do in League One this season because of the crazy money, in particular that Birmingham spent, which has definitely inflated prices across the whole division.

That has had an impact on the transfer activity and there are a lot of players on loan. It is a young squad as Wellens likes working with younger players but, as he says, they are inconsistent and they make mistakes - but they will learn, there is no doubt about that.

Which player should Brentford fans be keeping an eye out for on Tuesday night?

Ethan Galbraith was signed last summer from Manchester United and he cleaned up at the end-of-season awards, winning the Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season. He is an exceptional player and Orient did well to keep him during the summer window because he must have attracted interest.

If he is fit, without doubt, the best player in the Orient squad is Jordan Graham. He signed last summer from Birmingham but picked up an injury in late October and has not featured since, but he makes such a difference when he does play.

How is Wellens likely to set up for this one?

It is normally one striker up front with three behind him; that centre-forward will be either Charlie Kelman or Dan Agyei.

It will be a high press, high energy and, I think, with a focus on taking the game to Brentford. What Wellens will want to avoid in doing that, though, is the mistakes that have been so costly.

This is the first meeting since the promotion clash between the two teams at Brisbane Road a decade ago, which Brentford won 1-0. What's your score prediction for this one?

A lot will depend on what sort of side Brentford field and I assume there will be a lot of changes. These things are so hard to predict! I think it will be a competitive game and I would not be surprised if it went all the way to penalties.
