Tony D’Amico has been heavily linked with the sporting director position at AC Milan and earlier this evening, he was asked about the rumours on TV.

Milan’s flaws have certainly been highlighted this season, currently in 9th place, and one of them is the sporting director role. Many candidates have been mentioned in the last few months but according to the latest reports, Atalanta’s Tony D’Amico is the favourite.

In his pre-match interview with Sky Italia earlier this evening, ahead of Atalanta’s clash against Lazio, D’Amico was asked about the Milan rumours. The question was also about the future of Gian Piero Gasperini, who looks set to leave at the end of the season.

“These are just rumours and are not worth commenting on, otherwise we’d never stop talking about every story out there. We are fully focused on Atalanta and achieving our targets,” he said as cited by Football Italia.

An expected response, one must admit, and it remains to be seen if talks will deepen between the parties in the coming weeks. Once a decision has been made on the sporting director, Milan will also be able to make a decision on the next head coach, so time is of the essence.
